Cocurricular
Up one levelChess
The College Chess Club began in 2001 under the guidance of “The Grandmaster” (Mr Attard). In the space of just 4 years the Club has become a highly popular co-curricular activity in the life of the College. The Club meets 4 lunchtimes a week, with members playing each other in ‘friendly’ competition. During the lunchtime meetings, players can also attempt to be crowned the Hardcore Champion. The Club regularly sees over 50 students attend each lunchtime, with ‘standing room only’ often being the order of the day.
Environment
The initial push for students to be involved in caring for the environment occurred early in 1995, when a group of students started up a gardening and maintenance group to beautify the the school grounds. This group worked on thurday afternoons during sport time. The group removed unsightly rubbish from the different parts of the school, collected leaves and other vegetable matter for the compost bin, collected loose sandstone which was crushed and used later for future planting of trees. During 1995, two shadehouses were donated to the school by Trees for Survival: Trees for 2000 sponsored by Rotary International. Early in 1996, students sowed native seeds into plastic tubestock pots. Since then, students have planted well over 700 trees and shrubs around the school.
