Old Boys Reunion 26th May 2006

A report on the Old Boys reunion held in Blacktown Workers Club 1952-1997 (45 Years )

"The Boys Were Back In Town"

Blacktown Workers' Club was the venue on Friday night 26th May for the biggest and best reunion that Patrician Brothers' College have ever had. In excess of 500 ex-students turned up to this grand occasion. The night was a true expression of Mateship, Friendship and Gratitude to the Patrician Brothers who established this great college back in 1952. Former principals, Bro. Bernard, Bro. Patrick and Bro. Benedict were all present on the night. The founding principal of the College, Bro Gerard Histon at the last moment was unable to attend this function due to illness. You could without fear of contradiction label these four stalwarts of Catholic Education as "Heroes" in the true sense of the word.

The night itself consisted of a sit down dinner and two power point presentations, expertly prepared by Mr. Denis McHenry, a teacher at the College. The 'Jazzem Showband' provided music throughout the evening. A raffle was conducted during the evening with proceeds going to Patrician Brothers' Mission in Kabonga, Kenya. Special thanks are extended to ex-students Mr George Vella owner of Breakaway Travel blacktown and Bob McGee owner of Adam's Tavern Blacktown who donated the major prizes for the raffle. Generous donors who wish to remain anonymous donated many other prizes for the raffle as well as lucky door prizes. Mr Ted Norman from Click Printing Blacktown donated all the printing requirements.

Among important guests present on the night were Bro. Peter Higgins, who celebrates his Golden jubilee this year as a Patrician Brother and Bro. Bernard Bulfin who was the longest serving principal at the College. A standing ovation was reserved for Mr Con Coutis who has recently retired after thirty-eight years of continuous service at the College.

The current deputy principal, Mr. Col O'Connel was an excellent master of ceremonies for the evening. Blacktown Workers' Club excelled itself by providing the Diamond Auditorium as the venue, a magnificent dinner and bar service for the reunion.

The continuous Power-Point presentation of the College events since 1952 plus photos of the evening will be available on DVD from the College office telephone 9671 3000 at a cost of $20.00
